Chapter 11
Rick rushes out the door. âWeâll be back for lunch!â
I nod and shoo him away. Good thing I gave up my desire to play golf too. The Karens and I donât get along and it becomes an ignore Elaine session each time I show up to play. So, piss on that. Iâm done.
The hot pink sundress with 1950s style bodice looks great on me. I love being a tart. White strappy sandals show off my tattoo nicely. Surely, Rick will notice this time. Heâs bringing Edgar, Timothy, and Jason over for lunch after their golf game.
Grilled chicken, tossed salad, roasted potatoes, and fresh yeast rolls steam waiting for the men to arrive for lunch. They stream in through the back door with Rick leading the way. Iâm behind the counter and he steps over to give me a kiss. I smile delightfully.
âWelcome. How did it go on the course?â
A series of mumbles of fine, yeah, great, followed by Iâm famished, smells wonderful, letâs eat. The giggle escapes as I bring the hot food to the table where there are five places set for our guests and us.
Rick is too busy yakking to notice my tattoo or me. Heâs an animated talker, always looking for an opportunity to show his smarts about finances and investments. I just let them talk and serve the meal and take my seat beside my husband at our round dining table.
âIs it to your liking?â I ask politely.
Another series of yes, grunts, uh-huhs, while they shovel in the food. âNext time bring your wives,â I say.
Rick snorts because he knows I donât like the Karens.
Timothy chuckles. âIf Edith comes over, so do our three rugrats.â
âWell, thatâs okay.â
He looks around at our clean posh home. âTrust me, itâs not.â
Itâs nice to laugh. I only say it to be polite anyway. I couldnât care less if they brought their wives and children. This way is nice because I have the attention of four men all to myself.
âSeconds? We have plenty?â
Edgar nods eagerly.
âYes maâam,â Jason says.
âIâm saving room for that delicious dessert I hear youâve made,â Timothy says.
âThereâs always room for all.â
I bring another platter of grilled chicken, the rest of the roasted potatoes, and the rest of the tossed salad. The rolls are already on the table. The men help themselves to a second serving.
âYouâre the best, Elaine,â Edgar says as he chews.
I smile. âThank you. Iâm a domestic goddess with mad cooking skills.â Rick receives my wink as he beams proudly.
Timothy turns his attention to me and smiles. âHowâs the stylist business going?â he asks. Heâs being polite by including me, and heâs sitting on the other side of me.
âWell, itâs going great actually. Weâre adding a massage therapist next week. Sheâll work Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. Quite capable too.â
âI suggested she expand since the business does so well,â Rick interjects.
âOf course, I take my husbandâs advice. Heâs got the smarts,â I say as I clear the lunch dishes and pull the bowls from the cupboards.
